I'm driving a 76 maverick that was handed down by my great grandma when she died but i need to sell but i cant

my parents said that since it was a gift...i shouldnt sell it but im having to constantly pour money into it to fix it...i need a job but i also need a new car because its forcing me to spend tons of money on it..not to mention the 15 mpg it gets...costing me roughly 45 bucks a week to fill up and thats just going to school!!
