What's your opinion on this situation?

I had fallen in love with one of my good friends. As much as we tried to downgrade to platonic, we can't talk on the phone without being affectionate ... so it was either being lovers or nothing. My husband of 15 years made me completely sever the friendship, which hurt me and hurt her, but I felt it was for the best. Also, she was a little manipulative (putting a guilt complex on me because I was bi -- i.e., not "completely ") and, in effect, wanted me to leave my husband. It should be of note that my husband is not a controlling man ... and this is the only time he told me, "It's her or me". He doesn't even want me to maintain an online friendship with her, and said he had a feeling that things would turn very bad if I stayed friends with her, i.e., she would dump me and I would lose him as well.
