"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son... Does "world" here mean the rock sphere...?

It means the people, in this case. One could even venture to say it means even the non-believers...often times they are called "The world" or "people of the world"....God loved these people so much he sacrificed Jesus...just so they could be saved if they chose to be.
